When he walked into his office for the first time as the new regional manager of Castro ventures, he was greeted with an avalanche of publicity as everyone in the office gave a standing ovation in respect to his new official position. Interpolated to his versatile nature is the fact he works with dexterity and has amazing people oriented skills. Most of his colleagues cavils at his excellence each time their firm holds their quarterly review meetings. The more repugnant his success becomes to them, the more encouraging their envy becomes to him. The exigencies of his job demands an unbeatable level of punctuality but he’s not deterred. Punctuality has been one virtue he holds in esteem even as a mere worker in his early years at Castro before this unique trait, consecutive for the last three years got him the promotion he never expected.
With this glacial success hovering around him, he’s still an unhappy man. A man of grief and solitude who smile at the multitude of many but sink in the reverie of sorrow once he’s behind closed doors. Sometimes, he feels lost in the midst of the crowd, unconscious of the world around him, nurturing and nourishing suicidal thoughts. Will he become a virtual recluse for the remainder of his life due to the untimely death of his wife? That’s a question he hasn’t been able to answer for the last five years. This is a woman he fought a battle of the titans to marry in spite his parents’ insistence on him marrying from Anambra. All his effort to use diplomacy to convince and have them assert to the marriage seems like a drum of water poured on kagoro rock.
As diplomacy failed, autocracy emerged and won. His parents got to understand their son is entitled to his decision and allowed their son Nnaemeka to marry Ngozi. Ngozi ,his late wife was virtuous, decent, faithful , as beautiful and fair like the sun combined with high caliberated level of intelligence. People spoke more of her intellectual prowess than her looks yet her looks is the first they get to notice without words. Enough of this self-pity, he told himself. His wife is gone and gone forever. Is high time he begun his search for a woman to fill the vacuum his late wife left and the best place to find that woman is in the CHURCH. That’s where the hunting began…
